What It Means To Subscribe

Thank you for visiting my website. Would you like to receive regular updates of books, or articles on Mel’s Muse? Perhaps you’re interested in Creative Writing? Family and Parenting issues? Stepfamilies or Bereavement? Or, perhaps, Personal Growth or Relationships, or taking a Personality Test?
There are several ways of doing this and, having taken the advice of a professional blogger, I’m going to assume that you may not know about them all. Here’s what you can do:
- You can keep coming back to the Mel Menzies website – if you remember.
- You can ‘bookmark’ the website by clicking on the star icon at the end of the URL address box at the top right hand side of the screen – and keep coming back.
- Better still - you can ‘subscribe’ to e-mail updates – free – for reminders.
- Or best of all you can click the purple ‘subscribe to my blog’ button on the right side of every page, or the orange icon next to the star in the URL address box at the top right hand side of the screen. This is RSS. And it’s free.
WHAT IS RSS? AND WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES TO ME?
RSS (Real Simple Syndicate) is a technology that is used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favorite websites.
It provides you with a method of getting relevant, and up to date, information sent to you for you to read in your own time.
Although you can ‘bookmark’ a website to keep track of updates, you have to return to them on a regular basis to see what’s been added. Not only do you have to do all the work, but you can miss new articles you wanted to see.
RSS saves you time, and helps you to get the information you want soon after it’s published.
I DON’T LIKE THE IDEA OF ‘SUBSCRIBING’.
Subscribing to a website is like subscribing to a magazine that is delivered to you periodically, but instead of it coming through your letterbox each month, it’s delivered to your ‘RSS Reader’ every time your favorite website updates.
Subscribing does not involve a financial ‘subscription’. It is completely FREE. No money is ever paid or owing.
HOW DO I USE RSS?
You need an RSS Feed Reader. There are lots around. Google Reader and Bloglines are both easy to use and have good help sections to get you up and running.
Other options include MyYahoo, MyGoogle and MyMSN. But there are loads of different feeders buttons in all colours, shapes and sizes. Simply click the button and follow instructions. The website owner won’t even know you’ve done it!
To subscribe to my Blog, Mel’s Muse, click the purple button on the right hand side of the page, or click the little orange icon at the end of the URL box where you see www.melmenzies.co.uk at the top of your screen.
I’D RATHER USE E-MAIL THAN RSS, IF THAT’S OKAY?
Not to worry! Not everyone likes RSS, so if you’d rather have e-mail notification that’s fine. Just click on this link and send me your details. You have my solemn promise that your details will never be divulged to anyone, or be abused in any way. What’s more, you may unsubscribe at any time.
So don’t miss out. Subscribe to Mel’s Muse and get all the latest articles on Creative Writing; Family and Parenting; Stepfamilies; Bereavement; Personal Growth; Relationships. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to take a Personality Test

Whilst settling in my new home I have been busy adding to my collection of short stories which is now being prepared for publication in collaboration with a local artist.
l Would like to have a friendly mixed group around me to share experiences - with the ability to gently offer creative criticism ( not obligatory) and I am always open to new ideas
I am full of enthusiasm so will be looking eagerly at my in tray over the next few weeks.
