Picked for a Purpose
Bearing fruit in times of hardship
Born with a painful, undiagnosed disease, Mel was branded ‘naughty and attention-seeking’ from birth, a label that stuck with her. Poor body image, a disastrous adolescence, adulterous marriage, divorce, a drug-addicted daughter and her ultimate death might be seen as negatives. But with God’s intervention, seeds sown eventually put down roots, blossomed and bore fruit in her life.
With mental health issues rife, and unemployment due to the coronavirus, Mel’s hope is that this book will bring inspiration to those who have suffered.

Read this book and find hope rather than cliches, substance rather than slogans. Highly recommended. Jeff Lucas, Author, International Speaker & Broadcaster
‘Picked for a Purpose’ is a very honest approach to the retelling of a life story. The reflections and challenging questions at the end of each chapter, encourage the reader to focus the mind and find answers that are unique to themselves. A sincere, compelling read. Marjorie Broadhead, Headmistress and OFSTED Reporting Inspector, Retired
This is a book which most people will resonate with in some way or other . . . not just a good read but also a window into a time gone by. The reflections at the end of each chapter encourage the reader to see the hand of God in their own life and to question some of our attitudes and actions. Dr Tessa Barton

Honest and uplifting
Mel's book is painfully honest at times as she recounts the many and hurtful challenges in her life. At the same time there's a thread running throughout, of God's presence, his grace and the way he transmutes her sadnesses and struggles into something fruitful. This is a book for all those who feel God might have abandoned them, and those who feel they cannot go on. Mel's book takes you by the hand and assures you that there is a fruitful purpose in your life and in all that has happened to you.
